The different areas of metallurgical engineering are advancing quickly to cater to the needs of present-day technology. It has been observed recently that many modern technologies have changed the face of the metallurgical world; among these, powder metallurgy (PM) and additive manufacturing (AM) techniques are at the top. Both techniques are very popular among metallurgists for fabricating intricate shapes and small, complex parts with improved properties.

This book covers wide spectrums of both PM and AM techniques in detail. Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing: Fundamentals and Advancements discusses the evolution and history of PM and AM techniques. It also highlights detailed explanations of various powder production techniques followed by the evolution of microstructure with the fabricated methods. It gives insight on how to achieve greater densities along with improved properties using different advanced sintering techniques. The structure-property relationship and the chemistry behind PM are also explained in detail. A comparison of AM and PM methods is included as well. The role of nanomaterials in AM to produce energy-storage devices such as supercapacitors and three-dimensional printers, followed by the applications of AM in the construction, automobile, and medical industries, are also explored. This book provides in-depth information about the economic contribution of PM industries to the world. It offers a general idea of the job opportunities available to engineering graduates interested in working in related industries and introduces various global PM organizations. We have incorporated interesting topics on intermetallic, ceramic, and high-entropy alloys along with the role of PM industries in sustainable aviation, flying cars, onshore and offshore wind turbines, hyperloop design, and noise mitigation.

This book is comprised of sixteen chapters contributed by well-known specialists in the distinct fields of PM and AM. It is beneficial for research scholars and undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate metallurgical and mechanical engineering students to understand the basic concepts of PM and AM along with the interesting and related applications. This book can be used as a reference book for PM and AM courses offered by various institutes, colleges, and universities all over the world. It covers most of the PM- and AM-related topics along with recent advancements and the general job opportunities for students. We are certain this book will motivate the students to choose PM and AM as research and engineering careers. Practicing mechanical, metallurgical, and materials engineers are the target audience for this book. All the PM and AM companies, especially their research and development divisions, could benefit by having Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing: Fundamentals and Advancements on hand.

We would like to thank all the authors who contributed various chapters. We also thank those who reviewed the chapters. Special thanks to the publisher, ASM International, for the timely publication of such a quality book. Constructive criticism and suggestions for further improvement of the book are welcome.
