A comparative study was done on the structure and tribological properties of arc sprayed coatings and arc surfaced layers of TRIP steel. An iron alloy feedstock was used due to its ability to form a metastable austenite structure in both sprayed and surfaced layers that can be transformed to hard martensite by an applied external load. Microstructural and phase analysis and adhesive and abrasive wear tests were conducted to evaluate the coatings and surfaced layers. Differences in properties are explained based on input energy parameters.

According to our modeling of oxygen input into particles at arc spraying (AS) a cored wire of Fe-25Cr-5Al type was developed. The oxidation behavior of AS coatings from this wire was studied in air under atmospheric pressure at 700°C. Influence of Si, Ti was studied by means of mass-change measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It is determined that addition of Si and Ti lead to preventing formation of complex carbides like (Fe, Cr) 7 C 3 , spinels like (Fe, Cr) 2 O 3 and nitrides like AlN. Absence of these carbides, spinels and nitrides leads to significantly improving a protective property of surface oxide layer of Al 2 O 3 . Heat resistance of developed coatings was compared with austenitic steels like Tempaloy A-1 and TP 310 ASME SA312 and with ferritic steels like T11 and T122 ASME A213 which are widely used as boiler materials.

Babbitt surfacing is used in tribological applications because of its low friction coefficient. Thermal spray surfacing and pouring are two widely used production processes for Babbitted parts. This paper presents a comparative analysis of structures and friction properties of Sn-Sb-Cu Babbitt layers produced by these techniques. The sprayed Babbitt coatings were produced by arc spraying of 1.6 and 3 mm diameter wire.

Analysis of melting mode of core wire at Arc Spraying helped to explain a possibility of incomplete fusion of a charge of a core wire. Influence of physicochemical parameters of feedstock and atomization modes was established. Analysis results helped to develop a metastable austenite type Core Wire for Arc Spraying of good wear resistance. Applications results are shown.

Babbitt is used at tribology applications according to its low friction coefficient. Thermal spraying and pouring are widely used production processes of Babbitted parts. Comparative analysis of structure and wear properties of Babbitt layers produced by these technologies was done. Examples of typical arc sprayed Babbitted part's applications which were done at Mashprom are represented.
