Abstract
Friction materials for braking devices on high-speed trains must be able to dissipate large amounts of energy levels and do so with a minimum amount of mass. Low thermal diffusivity materials such as coated steel discs are of particular interest to researchers in this field. This paper investigates the wear behavior of stellite coatings, based on cobalt or nickel alloys, applied to aluminum titanate pads. The coatings are assessed in terms of friction coefficient, contact temperature, and wear as compared to cermet coated steel discs.
