This study investigates the effect of preheating on the dynamic flowability of HVOF powders, including conventional WC-Co, nano WC-Co, WC-FeCrAl, and Cr3C2-NiCr. The results show that the flowability of WC-Co powders can be significantly improved with a two-hour preheat at 200 °C. One explanation for the improvement is that moisture absorbed by the powder is released during pretreatment, but further study is required as it was found that dynamic density influences flow behavior as well.
