Abstract

It is frequent in the sea that water spatters on decks and thus they are wet and slippery, which badly affects the safety of the workers and normal operation on shipboard. Most Chinese shipboards have not been treated with non-skid technology; therefore, it is urgent to solve the skidding problems on the shipboards in China. it is an efficient way to solve the problem of skidding on shipboard by using composite coating which contains aluminum oxide particles dispersed in the aluminum-matrix and is made by arc spraying. This paper describes developments in arc-sprayed composite layers with aluminum oxide-filled wires. Tribological properties are investigated: The composite layers show good non-slip behavior with a coefficient of friction of up to 0.7. The wear resistance is four to six times better than that of Al layers. Paper includes a German-language abstract.
