Abstract
Effective and efficient management of heat treat energy requires continuous energy monitoring. The requirements for an effective system consisting of meters and associated software are shown. In particular, selecting and configuring the proper electric and natural gas meter is covered. The benefits of continuously monitoring energy are shown versus general gas and electric usage calculations. Examples of energy reduction opportunities in such areas as idling practice and furnace rebuild benefits are shown. Identifying high energy usage equipment and the process of targeting reductions is discussed. The opportunity for setting metrics on energy usage per weight of material processed for each operation is presented.
