... problem. Boehmite Films The natural surface oxide film can be thickened by exposure to moving water, hot soft water, or steam. If this is done before exposure to a pitting-type environment, pitting is sometimes prevented. In one experiment, a specimen of 1200 alloy sheet that had previously been...
Abstract
This article addresses the general effects of the composition, mechanical treatment, surface treatment, and processing on the corrosion resistance of aluminum and aluminum alloys. There are five major alloying elements: copper, manganese, silicon, magnesium, and zinc, which significantly influence the properties of aluminum alloys. There are organic coatings or paints that provide a barrier between a corrosive environment and aluminum surface. Inorganic coatings, including claddings, and enhanced oxides, such as anodized films, Boehmite films, and conversion coatings also help in corrosion prevention. The article assists in the information on selection of fabrication operations, as they play an important role in corrosion resistance.

Abstract
This article addresses several distinct aspects of corrosion that should be taken into account when solving the corrosion problems in the food and beverage industries. It summarizes the role of international standards in developing food and beverage industries: the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Welding Society (AWS), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The article tabulates the approximate pH values of various foods. It describes the contamination of food products by corrosion. A discussion on specific stainless steels, their corrosion resistance, fabrication, and applications is presented and compared to other potential materials of construction. The article also presents case studies of stainless steel corrosion and concludes with a discussion on corrosion in cleaning and sanitizing processes.

Abstract
This article discusses the particular corrosion problems encountered and the corrosion control methods used in petroleum production (i.e., upstream) and the storage and transportation of oil and gas (i.e., midstream) up to the refinery (i.e., downstream). These control methods include proper material selection, protective coatings, cathodic protection systems, use of inhibitors, use of nonmetallic materials, and control of the environment. The article reviews the aspects of corrosion that tend to be unique to corrosion as encountered in applications involving oil and gas exploration and production. It discusses corrosion problems that are specific to the various types of environments or equipment used in secondary recovery, including producing wells, producing flow lines, and injection wells. Corrosion mitigation methods and guidelines are also discussed for each type of environment.

Abstract
Aluminum and its alloys are highly corrosion resistant, protected by a self-healing oxide film that effectively passivates the underlying surface. This article examines the various processes by which the protective layer can be breached and the types of corrosion that can occur. It describes pitting, galvanic, and atmospheric corrosion as well as stress-corrosion cracking, corrosion fatigue, and erosion corrosion. It also covers intergranular, exfoliation, filiform, deposition, and crevice corrosion and special cases of corrosion in soils, seawater, and automotive coolant systems. The article provides an extensive amount of data as well as information on coatings, claddings, and cathodic protection methods; the effects of composition, microstructure, and surface treatments; and the compatibility of aluminum with food and various household and industrial chemicals.
