Abstract
Semisolid metal (SSM) processing is a special die casting process, where partially solidified metal slurry is injected into a die cavity to form die cast components. This article discusses the flow behavior of an SSM slurry with emphasis on viscosity, rheological behavior, and yield stress. It illustrates the microstructural formation of semisolids under forced convection. The article concludes with an illustration that compares two SSM processes, namely, thixocasting and rheocasting.

Abstract
This article reviews the pattern materials used in investment casting, which can be loosely grouped into waxes and plastics. The patternmaking process, pattern tooling, and pattern and cluster assembly are described. The article also describes the manufacture of ceramic shell molds and cores, detailing the binders and other materials used, as well as the formulation and control of slurries. Methods for pattern removal, mold firing, melting, casting, postcasting treatment, and inspection are explained. After presenting design recommendations for investment castings, the article concludes with information on applications and special versions of the investment casting process.

Abstract
This article is a review of the material extrusion-based ceramic additive manufacturing (MECAM) processes. The discussion begins with details of extrusion with filament and paste, covering the most popular variants of paste extrusion-based MECAM techniques that can be differentiated based on paste type and the method of shape retention of the deposited layer: extrusion freeforming, robocasting ceramic on-demand extrusion, and freeze-form extrusion fabrication. The article then focuses on post-processing considerations and the mechanical properties of sintered ceramic parts. It concludes with information on innovation opportunities in ceramic additive manufacturing, such as incorporating UV-curing and gelation in the process and producing geometrically complex structures from shapeable green bodies.

Abstract
Tribocorrosion is the subject dealing with complex, synergistic effects of chemical and mechanical conditions that cause wear. This article begins with a discussion on oxidative wear and corrosive wear, as well as quantitative measurements of corrosion, mechanical wear, and wear-corrosion effects. It illustrates the mechanism of corrosive-abrasive wear and discusses the factors affecting two-body wear. These factors include particle shape, size, density, and hardness; slurry velocity; slurry particle angle of attack; solids concentration in the slurry; hydrodynamic factors; corrosion products and the mass transfer of oxygen. The article describes slurry particle impingement tests and grinding tribocorrosion tests, as well as the factors to be considered for mitigating corrosive wear, such as materials selection, surface treatments, and environment modifications.

This article discusses classification of foundry processes based on the molding medium, such as sand molds, ceramic molds, and metallic molds. Sand molds can be briefly classified into two types: bonded sand molds, and unbonded sand molds. Bonded sand molds include green sand molds, dry sand molds, resin-bonded sand molds, and sodium silicate bonded sand. The article describes the casting processes that use these molds, including the no-bake process, cold box process, hot box process, the CO2 process, lost foam casting process and vacuum molding process. The casting processes that use ceramic molds include investment casting, and plaster casting. Metallic molds are used in permanent mold casting, die casting, semisolid casting, and centrifugal casting.

Investment casting, in which molten metal is poured into hot molds, allows for the production of aluminum parts with extremely thin sections, knife edges and sharp detail. This article describes the various steps in the investment casting process, including patternmaking and dimensioning, the design and manufacture of shell molds, melting and casting methods, and postcasting operations such as knockout, core removal, and cleaning. It describes raw material preparation, forming and fabrication, thermal processing, and finishing. Mechanical plating is a method for coating ferrous metals, copper alloys, lead, stainless steel, and certain types of castings by tumbling the parts in a mixture of glass beads, metallic dust or powder, promoter or accelerator chemicals, and water. It offers a straightforward alternative method for achieving desired mechanical and galvanic properties with an extremely low risk of hydrogen embrittlement. The refractory metals include niobium, tantalum, molybdenum, tungsten, and rhenium. They are readily degraded by oxidizing environments at moderately low temperatures. Protective coating systems have been developed, mostly for niobium alloys, to permit their use in high-temperature oxidizing aerospace applications. The high-alloy irons can be categorized into two main groups: the high-alloy graphitic irons (covering both gray and ductile grades) and the high-alloy white irons. High-alloy irons are used in applications with demanding requirements, such as high resistance to wear, heat, and corrosion, or for combined properties. This article discusses the specification and selection of high-alloy irons. The common alloying elements and their effect on the stable and metastable eutectic temperatures are listed in a table.
