Abstract
Two-component polyurea elastomeric coating/lining systems are the newest technology in the protective coating/lining industry and a wide variety of applications have been developed. These include coating/lining applications over concrete, geotextile membranes, various metals for corrosion and decorative areas, and some plastics. This article discusses the formulation basics of polyurea technology and compares the technology to that of polyurethane and polyurethane/polyurea systems. It addresses performance issues and describes application processing considerations and safety practices of polyurea coating/lining systems.

Abstract
Phenols are a class of aromatic organic compounds in which one or more hydroxyl groups are attached directly to the aromatic benzene ring, C6H6. This article describes the development of phenolic resin and the formation of novolac resin and resol resin. Phenolic resol resins are used in interior can coatings and tank linings as well as for heat exchanger tube coatings because of their high chemical and thermal resistance. The article concludes with a description of the concerns that a specifier, user, or applicator should be aware of regarding the use of phenolic coatings.

Abstract
This article describes the features, benefits and limitations of petrolatum and microcrystalline wax. It provides a detailed discussion on the steps to be followed before applying the various forms of the wax-based coatings. The wax-based coating forms include petrolatum and microcrystalline tapes, marine petrolatum-based pile systems; cold-applied petrolatum-based paste coating systems; hot-applied microcrystalline wax flood coating systems; wax-based dips, brushons, and sprays; and wax-impregnated fabrics and wax-coated papers. The article also discusses the applications and limitations of these wax-based coatings. It concludes by highlighting the steps involved in the installation of wax-based casing fillers.

Abstract
Bitumen for coating usage can best be categorized as two fundamental but very different types: asphalts and coal tars. This article provides a detailed discussion on asphalt and coal tar hot-melt applications; asphalt and coal tar emulsions; asphalt and coal tar cutbacks; and coal tar epoxies. It reviews the similarities between asphaltic and coal tar coatings and discusses the health and environmental concerns of these materials.

Abstract
The use of zinc in corrosion-protective coatings is due to its higher galvanic activity relative to that of steel. Pure zinc dust provides the best sacrificial protection to steel in a galvanic couple. Zinc-rich coatings can be subcategorized according to the type of binder material used, namely, inorganic and organic zinc-rich coatings. Common inorganic binders such as post-cured water-based alkali metal silicates, self-cured water-based alkali metal silicates, and self-cured solvent-based alkyl silicates, are reviewed. The article also compares inorganic and organic zinc-rich coatings, and discusses the concerns regarding zinc-rich coatings.
