Abstract
Aerosol jet printing (AJP) can digitally fabricate intricate patterns on conformal surfaces with applications that include flexible electronics and antennas on complex geometries. Given the potential performance and economic benefits, aerosol jetting was studied and compared with the well-known and competing inkjet printing (IJP). More than 35 of the most relevant, highly cited articles were reviewed, focusing on applications requiring fine features on complex surfaces. The following performance indicators were considered for the comparison of AJP and IJP, because these aspects were the most commonly mentioned within the included articles and were identified as being the most relevant for a comprehensive performance assessment: printing process, line width, overspray, complex surface compatibility, diversity of printable materials, and deposition rate. This article is an account of the results of this comparison study in terms of printing capabilities, ink requirements, and economic aspects.

Abstract
Germanium is a semiconducting metalloid element found in Group IV A. Germanium is used in the field of electronics, infrared optics, and in the fields of gamma ray spectroscopy, catalysis, and fiber optics. This article discusses the sources, manufacturing, and processing of germanium, and focuses on the chemical properties of various germanium compounds, including germanium halides, germanates, germanides, germanes, inorganic, and organogermanium compounds. It also tabulates the physical, thermal, electronic, and optical properties of germanium, and explains the economical aspects and specifications of germanium. The article describes the analytical and test methods of germanium, including gravimetric method, titrimetric method, and spectral method. It provides a short note on toxicology, and concludes with the uses of germanium in different fields.

Abstract
Induction hardening of geared parts used in aeronautic and aerospace industry is an important technology because of its one-piece flow, repeatability, energy efficiency, and tighter control of surface distortion than conventional carburizing. This article describes the requirements and characteristics of induction hardening of transmission parts, such as bearings, shafts, and different types of gears, including bevel gears, spur wheel gears, helical gears, and splines. It provides information on process monitoring and the economic aspects of induction hardening.

Abstract
This article presents a brief history and the uses of the anodic protection technique. It compares anodic and cathodic protection and describes the design considerations of the anodic protection system. The article discusses the specific requirements of equipment required for anodic protection. It also explains the applications and economic aspects of anodic protection, with examples.

Abstract
This article focuses on the various technology drivers for finishing methods, namely, tolerance, consistency, surface quality, and productivity. Every finishing method may be viewed as a manufacturing system consisting of four input categories: machine tool, processing tool, work material, and operational factors. The article provides a classification of finishing as a surface generation process and addresses the characteristics of the generated surfaces and the methods used to measure them. It describes the thermomechanical interactions occurring between the processing tool and the work material in the presence of machine tool and operational factors.

Abstract
The inclusion of damage tolerance design and a systematic review of design procedures allow the U.S. Air Force to design, manufacture, and maintain systems that are structurally safe and economically prudent. After a brief introduction of fracture mechanics, this article describes the particular aspects that relate to damage tolerance in aircraft design. It discusses the use of fracture mechanics as a method of predicting failure, understanding failure mechanisms, and suggesting inspection methods to protect against failure in pressure vessels. Various programs of U.S. Air Force to design aircraft structure, namely, airframe structural integrity programs, engine structural integrity program, and mechanical subsystems structural integrity program are also discussed.
