Abstract
Additive manufacturing (AM) security is considered an integral part of several broader security fields, including supply chain security and critical infrastructure security. This article presents a general guide to the types of data and locations of data as they may exist in a typical AM-using organization. It discusses the following threat categories: technical data theft, sabotage, illegal part manufacturing, and data infiltration and exfiltration. The article also presents a detailed discussion on countermeasures against threat categories.

This article first describes a typical additive manufacturing (AM) process chain, which involves the transaction of digital information to manufacture physical products. The digitized nature of AM exposes the technology to increased vulnerabilities, posing a hurdle to its mass adoption. The article presents motivation for using blockchain, which is a decentralized, immutable ledger that is shared on a peer-to-peer network. The article presents the advantages of blockchain integration to AM supply chains. These involve aspects of data security, supply chain and logistics, finance, value creation, and scope expansion. Additive manufacturing (AM) is a revolutionary technology that fabricates parts layerwise and provides many advantages. This article discusses polymer AM processes such as material extrusion, vat photopolymerization (VPP), powder-bed fusion (PBF), binder jetting (BJ), material jetting (MJ), and sheet lamination (SL). Abstract
Additive manufacturing (AM) creates parts layer by layer directly from three-dimensional computer-aided design data. This article discusses systematic ways to address the challenges in AM data integration by exploring various AM-specific data-integration scenarios that can improve the current AM ecosystem. Representative AM data sources are also described. A reference framework that captures the heterogenous AM data sources and existing data-integration mechanisms are used. General data-integration practices—based on existing manufacturing data and lab information system integration experiences—are recommended to automate AM data flow, operations, and development. Lastly, the article discusses the seven steps in the big-data-integration workflow.

Abstract
As a failure investigation progresses, the time arrives when the data and results of the various testing and analyses are compiled, compared, and interpreted. Data interpretation should be relatively straightforward for results that align well. However, interpretation can be challenging when results from various tests seem contradictory or inconclusive. Regardless, conclusions must eventually be drawn from the data. This article discusses the processes involved in reviewing data, formulating conclusions, failure analysis report preparation and writing, and providing recommendations and follow-up with appropriate personnel to prevent future failures.

Abstract
Heat treating furnaces require different control systems and integration for achieving optimum technical results and enabling safe operation. This article focuses on atmosphere furnaces, with some coverage on controls for vacuum furnaces. Heat treating operations require reliable monitoring and control of motion and position of various mechanical components with the help of mechanical limit switches, proximity sensors, and distance- and position-measuring devices. Using inputs from both flow meters and sensors, such as thermocouples and oxygen sensors, flow measurement control systems must be able to adjust the flow of gases for process optimization. The operator interface of a furnace-control system displays critical information such as the furnace temperature, atmosphere status, alarms, electronic chart recorders, recipe, and maintenance. A supervisory control and data-acquisition (SCADA) system is used to monitor, collect, and store data from multiple pieces of equipment.

Abstract
This article provides an overview of the relationships between torque, angle-of-turn, tension, and friction and explains how they are measured and evaluated. It focuses on the principle, test equipment, procedure, evaluation, and test report of various testing methods, namely, friction coefficient testing, torque tension testing, locknut testing, and angular ductility and rotational capacity tests. The article reviews the basic methods and fundamental principles for mechanical testing of externally and internally threaded fasteners and bolted joints. The test methods for externally threaded fasteners include product hardness, proof load, axial and wedge tension testing of full-sized products, tension testing of machined test specimens, and total extension at fracture testing. Product hardness, proof load, and cone proof-load test are the test methods for internally threaded fasteners. The article concludes with a description of torque-angle signature analysis and the specification of measurement accuracy for torque and clamp force.

It focuses on safety issues concerning gas equipment used in conjunction with thermal spray equipment at consumer sites. The article covers the gas sources (bulk or gaseous), the piping (hard and soft) leading to the gas console or the torch, and the specific safety devices used to help ensure safe operation. It discusses the characteristics and safety hazards of gases such as oxygen, compressed air, nitrogen, helium, argon, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, acetylene, kerosene, propylene, propane, and natural gas. Abstract
The qualification of additive manufacturing (AM) processes and the certification of AM parts is recognized as a significant impediment to the rapid, low-cost deployment of AM manufacturing. The challenges are multifaceted; however, it is an attempt to apply conventional qualification approaches to an inherently different process that has caused the most difficulty. This article examines the conventional qualification methodology and explores how the unique characteristics of AM pose a set of qualification challenges. The extant approach to the qualification of AM processes is described, followed by a discussion on a possible future state.

Product design for manufacture and assembly can be the key to high productivity in all manufacturing industries. This article discusses the use of design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) software in the evaluation of proposed designs. It summarizes the steps taken when using DFMA software during design. The article describes the use of design for analysis tool in reducing the number of separate parts, estimating assembly time, and determining design efficiency. It reviews assembly analysis methods such as the assemblability evaluation method, the assembly-oriented product design method, the Lucas method, and the design-for-assembly cost effectiveness method. The article explains the design for manufacture in terms of cost estimation and principal cost drivers. It provides information on the applications of DFMA and roadblocks in the implementation of DFMA. The article concludes with a discussion on the design for automatic assembly.

This article describes the test methods for evaluating the durability of a metal in soil. It provides useful information on soil characteristics such as soil electrical resistivity, pH value, and soil texture. Specimen design, preparation, burial, and retrieval techniques are discussed. The type of information sought during soil-induced corrosion evaluation controls the design configuration and the nature of the corrosion measurements. Consideration of these factors during the planning stage helps the corrosion engineer to obtain the maximum amount of information with the minimum number of problems.

Independent verification of coating system performance can be based on laboratory testing and/or field exposure. Qualification testing is a critical component to coating system selection. This article focuses on performance evaluations that are used to prequalify coating systems, namely, facility-specific, industry-specific, coating-type-specific, or a combination of these. It describes the standard laboratory tests used to generate performance data, namely, physical, compositional, chemical exposure, and application characteristics tests. The pros and cons of using manufacturer-generated data versus independently generated data are discussed. The article provides information on accelerated corrosion/weathering testing and nuclear level 1/level 2 service coatings qualification. It also describes the procedures for establishing minimum performance requirements and for determining when requalification testing may be required.

Damage tolerance analysis consists of three parts such as the calculation of the residual strength diagram to obtain the permissible crack size, calculation of the crack growth curve, and calculation of the inspection interval. This article discusses the aspects of obtaining material property data and geometry factors to analyze any fracture or crack growth problem. It describes the integration of crack growth rates in terms of constant-amplitude loading and cycle-by-cycle counting with variable-amplitude loading.
