Abstract
Hot-rolled steel bars and other hot rolled steel shapes are produced from ingots, blooms, or billets converted from ingots, or from strand cast blooms and billets, and comprise a variety of sizes and cross sections. This article provides a brief discussion on mechanical properties, quality descriptors and chemical compositions of hot-rolled steel bars, cold-finished steel bars, steel wire rod and steel wire. It contains tables that provide size tolerances for cold-finished carbon steel bar and cold-finished alloy steel bar.

Abstract
Low-carbon steel sheet and strip are used primarily in consumer goods. This article discusses quality descriptors and mechanical properties of low-carbon steel sheet and strip and carbon and low-alloy steel plate. Alloy steel sheet and strip are used primarily for those special applications that require the mechanical properties normally obtained by heat treatment. Steel sheet is coated in coil form before fabrication either by the steel mills or by specialists called coil coaters. Porcelain enamels are glass coatings applied primarily to products or parts made of sheet steel, cast iron, or aluminum to improve appearance and to protect the metal surface.

Abstract
This article presents the primary considerations and mechanisms for corrosion and explains how they are involved in the selection of materials for process equipment in refineries and petrochemical plants. It discusses the material selection criteria for a number of ferrous and nonferrous alloys used in petroleum refining and petrochemical applications. The article reviews the mechanical properties, fabricability, and corrosion resistance of refinery steels. It describes low- and high-temperature corrosion, hydrogen embrittlement, and cracking such as stress-corrosion, sulfide stress, and stress-oriented hydrogen-induced cracking. The article considers hydrogen attack, corrosion fatigue, and liquid metal embrittlement and the methods of combating them. It explains the causes of velocity-accelerated corrosion and erosion-corrosion. The article summarizes some corrective measures that can be implemented to control corrosion. The applicable standards for materials used in corrosive service conditions in upstream and downstream petroleum service are presented in a tabular form.

Abstract
This article discusses the mill products most often formed by the three-roll forming process. It schematically illustrates some of the shapes commonly produced from flat stock by the three-roll forming process. The article describes the two basic types of three-roll forming machines, namely, the pinch-roll type and the pyramid-roll type. It also lists the advantages of the pinch-roll machine, as compared to the pyramid-roll machine. The article analyzes the hot forming and cold forming processes for carbon or low alloy steel. It explains the procedure for forming truncated cones, bars, and bar sections by utilizing the pyramid-roll machine.

Abstract
This article provides information on the microstructure of powder metal alloys and the special handling requirements of porous materials. It covers selection, sectioning, mounting, grinding, and polishing, and describes procedures, such as washing, liquid removal, and impregnation, meant to preserve pore structures and keep them open for analysis. The article compares and contrasts the microstructures of nearly 50 powder metal alloys, using them to illustrate the effect of consolidation and compaction methods as well as particle size, composition, and shape. It discusses imaging equipment and techniques and provides data on etchants and etching procedures.
