Abstract
Corrosion of carbon steel weldments can be due to metallurgical effects, such as preferential corrosion of the heat-affected zone (HAZ) or weld metal, or it can be associated with geometrical aspects, such as stress concentration at the weld toe, or creation of crevices due to joint design. This article describes the issues related to corrosion of carbon steel weldments and the remedial measures that have proven to be successful in specific cases. It provides useful information on preferential HAZ corrosion, preferential weld metal corrosion, and galvanic corrosion.

Abstract

Abstract
Repair and maintenance of parts and components is carried out as a logical procedure that ensures the production of a usable and safe component or it can be approached haphazardly. This article describes the requirements and repair techniques of arc and oxyfuel welding processes to repair weld defects and structural failures. It further discusses the preliminary assessment and base-metal preparation involved in weld repair. Furthermore, the article provides information on the general repair guidelines that are followed to ensure successful weld repairs of both ferrous (carbon steels, cast irons, and stainless steels) and nonferrous (titanium) base metals.

Abstract
Roll welding (ROW) is a process in which two or more sheets or plates are stacked together and then passed through the rolls until sufficient deformation has occurred to produce solid-state welds. This article begins with a process description of two modes of roll welding, including pack rolling. It describes a patented roll welding process for fabrication of heat exchangers. The article presents a table showing the typical properties of common roll welded clad laminates. The relative weldability of selected dissimilar metals and alloys roll welded into clad-laminate form are also tabulated. The article concludes with information on cladding of metals by strip roll welding.

Resistance soldering (RS) can be applied to electrically conductive materials that allow the passage of electric current. Hot gas soldering is a process that is commonly used in applications where the workpiece thermal mass is small and the melting temperature of the solder is relatively low. This article describes the characteristics of hot gas heating that are critical to its effectiveness in soldering. Friction welding (FRW) can be divided into two major process variations: direct-drive or continuous-drive FRW and inertia-drive FRW. This article describes direct-drive FRW variables such as rotational speed, duration of rotation, and axial force and inertia-drive FRW variables such as flywheel mass, rotational speed, and axial force. It lists the advantages and limitations of FRW and provides a brief description on categories of applications of FRW such as batch and jobbing work and mass production. Projection welding (PW) is a variation of resistance welding in which current flow is concentrated at the point of contact with a local geometric extension of one (or both) of the parts being welded. This article discusses the applications of PW generally categorized as either embossed-projection welding or solid-projection welding. Different projection-welding configurations are schematically presented and the common variations of solid-projection welding are described. The article describes equipment used and the process requirement for the PW. Abstract
Friction welding (FRW) is a solid-state welding process in which the heat for welding is produced by the relative motion of the two interfaces being joined. This article describes two principal FRW methods: direct-drive welding and inertia-drive welding. The direct-drive FRW uses a motor running at constant speed to input energy to the weld. The inertia-drive FRW uses the energy stored in a flywheel to input energy to the weld. The article summarizes some of the metals that have been joined by FRW and discusses the metallurgical considerations that govern the properties of the resulting weld. It also presents a schematic illustration of the effect of welding parameters on the finished weld nugget obtained when similar metals are welded using inertia-drive FRW equipment.

Abstract
This article discusses two categories of stainless steel casting alloys and their nomenclature. It provides information on two situations in which welding of stainless steel castings is required. These situations are based on casting defects and selection of welding processes. The article presents compositions and typical microstructures of corrosion-resistant stainless steel casting alloys in tabular form. It presents special considerations for the welding of martensitic stainless steel castings. The article reviews the two most serious problems encountered in the welding of stainless steel castings, namely, solidification hot cracking and heat-affected zone hot cracking. It concludes with a discussion on the some useful considerations for welding corrosion-resistant alloys to avoid defects.
