ASM Failure Analysis Case Histories: Failure Modes and Mechanisms
ASM Failure Analysis Case Histories: Failure Modes and Mechanisms documents more than 90 cases of structural and/or functional failure caused by various forms of corrosion, distortion, fracture, heat, and wear. The cases include examples of pitting, exfoliation, impingement, graphitic, galvanic, crevice, and velocity-affected corrosion as well as stress-corrosion cracking, dezincification, nitridation, and erosion corrosion. Fracture types examined include brittle, ductile, intergranular, and transgranular fracture, as well as creep (stress rupture) and fatigue fracture and fracture due to thermal and torsional fatigue. Examples of wear include abrasive, cavitation, galling, spalling, rolling-contact, and corrosive and erosive wear. The cases describe the investigation, identify the primary cause, and include remedial solutions. These case histories have been compiled from a wide variety of ASM International publication types, including ASM Handbook volumes, conference proceedings, technical books, journals, and magazines.
