Publication History

Failure Analysis and Prevention was published in 2002 as Volume 11 of the ASM Handbook. The online version includes articles from the Section “Failures of Manufactured Components and Assemblies” in Metals Handbook, 9th Edition, Volume 11, Failure Analysis and Prevention, 1986, p 457-727. The articles in this Section were not updated for the 2002 edition.

The article “Why Tools and Dies Fail” was added as an online update in 2016. It was adapted from J.Y. Riedel, Why Tools and Dies Fail, Metal Progress, Vol 97, April 1970, p 101-104.

In 2021, a new edition was published, and the 2002 version was moved to the ASM Handbook Archive.
