Abstract

Net shape forging can be defined as the process of forging components to final dimensions with no post-forging machining necessary. This chapter describes some of the causes of dimensional variation in precision forging. It discusses some of the developments in tool design, forging machines, and innovative forging processes such as microforming and orbital forging. The chapter also provides information on future trends of forging technology in the global marketplace.
