Cold and Hot Forging: Fundamentals and Applications
Separation of billets by shearing is a process without material loss and with considerably higher output with respect to sawing, abrasive cutting, or flame cutting. This chapter explains how a billet can be sheared and discusses the parameters affecting the surface quality of sheared billets. The formulas for calculating shearing force, work, and power are provided. In addition, the chapter discusses the improvements in shearing equipment that enhance the shearing quality.
