Abstract

Porcelain enamels are designed to provide special properties for specific environments, such as chemical and weather resistance, temperature resistance, and special mechanical and electrical properties. This article describes the porcelain enameling process that involves grinding a mixture of frit, water, and various suspending agents to form a slurry of cream-like consistency that can be applied, typically by spraying, to the cleaned and prepared aluminum. It discusses the chemical resistance, weather resistance, service temperatures, mechanical properties, electrical properties, and performance of porcelain enamels.
