Manufacturing Processes

Published:
2001

Abstract

This article explains the key features of manufacturing techniques for polymer composites. It describes the selection of a technically and economically feasible manufacturing technique for a composite design. The article discusses widely accepted and emerging techniques such as open-mold techniques, to manufacture polymer composites.

Abstract

This article provides information on the classification of various composites manufacturing processes based on similar transport processes. The composites manufacturing processes can be grouped into three categories: Short-fiber suspension methods, squeeze flow methods, and porous media methods. The article presents an overview of modeling philosophy and approach that is useful in describing the composites manufacturing processes.
