About AM&P Technical Articles

Advanced Materials & Processes (AM&P) is the flagship periodical publication from ASM International. The magazine covers leading-edge developments in materials selection, processing, applications, and characterization, as well as emerging technologies of interest to engineers and scientists. Advanced Materials & Processes was launched by ASM in 1985 around the same time the organization changed its name from the American Society for Metals to ASM International. It is considered the successor to Metal Progress magazine, which published its final issue in 1986.

As the name suggests, the AM&P Technical Articles site includes the technical articles and selected columns and features published in the magazine. The coverage is planned to extend back to Volume 170 (2012); articles will be added to the site with the release of each new issue. The complete contents of recent issues—including the editorials, industry news, product news, and advertisements—are available in digital format at the AM&P Magazine site.

The current editor of AM&P, since September 2019, is Joanne Miller. The past editors include

  • Frances Richards, June 2013 through August 2019
  • Edward J. Kubel, Jr., January 1990 through May 1993 and August 2010 through May 2013
  • Margaret (Peg) Hunt, June 1993 through July 2010
  • Hugh Baker, February 1988 through December 1989
  • John Bittence, September 1985 through January 1988
