SILICO ALLOY is a silicon-manganese shock-resisting tool steel; it has high toughness at relatively high operating hardnesses. It is primarily an oil-hardening steel because of its molybdenum content (0.45%); however, it may be water hardened. Atlas 302HQ is a chromium-nickel-copper austenitic stainless steel. It is a specialized wire grade with very wide usage for the manufacture of stainless steel fasteners. The inclusion of 3% copper in the composition reduces the cold work hardening rate substantially compared to type 304 austenitic stainless steel. Atlas 302HQ is the standard for the manufacture of self-tapping screws and light machine screws. It is also used for some bolts, set screws, rivets, and specialized fasteners. AISI Type S2 is a water-hardening tool steel with extreme toughness and resistance to shock loading. Even at a hardness of Rockwell C 59-60, it will bend before it breaks. When hardened in medium-size and large-size pieces, it acquires a hard case and a tough core. Sizes under 3/4-inch (19mm) diameter will water harden to the center.
