Copper Alloy No. C18700 is a copper-base alloy containing lead (nominally 1.0%). The lead is added to impact free-cutting properties to the metal. Although the lead lowers the electrical conductivity of Alloy No. C18700 slightly below that of tough-pitch copper, it still has high electrical conductivity well within the limits needed for most current-carrying requirements. Typical uses comprise electrical motor and switch parts, electrical connectors and screw-machine parts requiring high conductivity. CARPENTER STAINLESS TYPE 440F is a high-carbon chromium steel designed to provide stainless properties with maximum hardness. It is free-machining, easy to grind and polish, and has certain nongalling and noseizing properties in metal-to-metal contact. After austenitizing and quenching in oil, it shows a hardness of about Rockwell C 60. Carpenter Stainless Type 440F is used for machined parts which require higher hardness than possible with other free-machining grades of stainless steel. Type 440F usually is not recommended for vessels containing gases or liquids under high pressures. CARPENTER PROJECT 70 STAINLESS TYPE 416 is an improved modification of Carpenter Stainless No. 5, the first free-machining stainless steel ever made. This grade has significantly better machinability than the conventional AISI Type 416. Carpenter Project 70 Stainless Type 416 is suited particularly for automatic screw-machine operations where the longer tool life results in more productive machine time. LA SALLE SERIES 83-420 is a low-carbon, bismuth-bearing, free-machining, cold-finished steel that does not contain lead, tellurium or selenium. Its excellent machinability is achieved by the addition of a special bismuth alloy. Series 83-420 reduces friction during machining and the chips break clean and small. This steel machines to a fine satin finish, can be carburized and performs well in cold-working operations such as roll threading, crimping, swaging and peening. It is recommended for automatic screw-machine operations. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: CS-107. Producer or source: LaSalle Steel Company.

CARPENTER NICKEL-COPPER ALLOY 405 is the free-machining grade of Carpenter Nickel-Copper Alloy 400, the result of a controlled amount of added sulfur. Like Alloy 400, Alloy 405 is a solid-solution alloy and therefore strengthed only by cold work. Its strength is comparable to that of structural steel and it has good toughness. It can be used from sub-zero to as high 800 F (1000 F in sulfur-free oxidizing environments). Its corrosion resistance (including virtual immunity to stress-corrosion cracking in chloride environments) is very good in reducing conditions but not in oxidizing atmosphere. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Ni-338. Producer or source: Carpenter.
