CORONA 5 is a titanium alloy developed for applications in fracture-controlled aircraft components. Plane strain fracture toughnesses of 110,000 to 150,000 psi sq.rt. in. (120 to 165 MPa sq.rt. m) have been produced in this alloy at 135,00 psi (930 MPa) tensile strength through a variety of different process histories. The specific strength (strength/density ratio) is superior to that of the Ti-6A1-4V alloy. Resistance to fatigue crack propagation and resistance to chloride-stress-corrosion cracking are comparable to those of Ti-6A1-4V. ACO Eurobar EN-GJS-400-18C-LT is a ferritic spheroidal graphite cast iron that is produced by the continuous casting process. It has a minimum tensile strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) and a minimum elongation of 18%. It has a tensile strength exceeding that of the highest-tensile-strength grade of gray cast iron, together with much higher elongation and impact resistance. Allvac 13-8 Super Tough alloy is a modification of the standard Allvac 13-8 alloy. (See Alloy Digest SS-866, November 2002.) It has good fabricability and can be age hardened by a single treatment in the range 510 to 621 deg C (950 to 1150 deg F). Cold working prior to aging enhances the aging. These properties supplement the superior fracture toughness and Charpy impact energies.
