for article titled, LESCALLOY BG42 VIM-VAR: Martensitic, Stainless, High-Speed Steel
LESCALLOY BG42 VIM-VAR combines the tempering, hardness and hardness-retention characteristics of AISI M50 high-speed steel with the corrosion and oxidation resistance of AISI Type 440C stainless steel. LESCALLOY BG42 VIM-VAR is double vacuum melted (VIM, Vacuum Induction Melted; VAR, Vacuum Arc Remelted) to consistently assure good cleanliness and superior properties. It is used for bearings, gears, ball screws and other aerospace applications. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fatigue. It also includes information on corrosion and wear resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-356. Producer or source: Latrobe Steel Company. See also Alloy Digest SS-179, revised February 1992.
