USS 18-8 Mo (AISI Type 316) is an iron-chromium-nickel alloy with superior resistance to corrosion because of an addition of 2 to 3% molybdenum. It is formable and weldable. It has good creep strength and is very well suited for high-temperature applications that require relatively high strengths up to 1500 F. It resists corrosion from a wide variety of chemicals and is highly resistant to oxidation to 1650 F. Its numerous applications include pharmaceutical equipment, pulp and paper industry, dairy equipment, and chemical processing.
