SILICO ALLOY is a silicon-manganese shock-resisting tool steel; it has high toughness at relatively high operating hardnesses. It is primarily an oil-hardening steel because of its molybdenum content (0.45%); however, it may be water hardened. It is a low-cost, high-quality steel that combines high toughness with the advantages of oil-hardening non-deforming steels. Its relatively high hardenability coupled with high toughness makes it extremely useful for larges shear blades in severe service. Other applications include pneumatic tools, punches, hand chisels, rivet sets and pipe cutters. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-473. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.

MOSIL is intended for applications requiring high toughness and resistance to shock loading. It is recommended for severe and repeated impacts in service. It has an excellent combination of hardness and toughness to withstand the high stresses in service and to resist abrasion and wear. Normally, it is hardened by austenitizing and quenching in oil. Among the many uses of Mosil are hand chisels, hammers, rivet sets, concrete breakers and heavy-duty punches. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-400. Producer or source: Teledyne Vasco.

GUTERL S-5 is a shock-resisting steel recommended for severe and repeated impacts in service. It has an excellent combination of toughness and hardness to survive the high stresses in service and to resist abrasion and wear. It is normally hardened by austenitizing and quenching in oil but it can be water quenched successfully with proper precautions. Its many uses include hammers, hand chisels, boiler punches, shear blades and pneumatic tools. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: TS-357. Producer or source: Guterl Special Steel Corporation.

AL Tech 609 is a silicon type of shock-resisting tool steel containing small additions of chromium, molybdenum and vanadium to increase hardenability, decrease grain size and improve mechanical properties. Because of its high elastic limit and fair ductility at comparatively high hardness, it has the ability to withstand heavy shocks before bending or breaking. Its many uses include shear blades, heavy-duty punches, pneumatic tools for severe service and machine parts subject to shock. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and shear strength as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-363. Producer or source: AL Tech Specialty Steel Corporation.
