RED CUT SUPERIOR is a high-speed steel of the 18% tungsten-4% chromium-1% vanadium type. Many consider it to be the best type of high-speed steel for general purposes. It is comparatively easy to fabricate and simple to heat treat. It has a minimum tendency to decarburize and an excellent combination of cutting ability and toughness. Its many uses include drills, reamers, milling cutters, lathe tools, punches, dies and springs for use at elevated temperature. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, tensile properties, and compressive strength as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-355. Producer or source: Teledyne Vasco.

CARPENTER STAR-ZENITH is an 18% tungsten-4% chromium-1% vanadium type of high-speed steel that, because of the practice used in its manufacture, has improved toughness to provide it with a stronger, keener cutting edge than is furnished by conventional steel manufacturing practice. For this reason hundreds of users have found it to be an excellent high-speed steel for broaches, form tools, reamers, taps and similar tools. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-382. Producer or source: Carpenter.

GUTERL T-1 is a general-purpose high-speed steel that is suitable for practically all high-speed applications. It is relatively easy to fabricate. This steel has been the standard of the industry for many years because of its excellent combination of cutting ability and toughness, ease of heat treatment and minimum tendency to decarburize. Its many uses include drills, taps, broaches, hobs, lathe and planer tools, milling cutters and wood-working tools. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. REX AA is the original 18-4-1 high-speed steel, having been first introduced in the early 1990s. Melting practice and processing have been improved since that time, but nevertheless it is so properly balanced and the fundamental characteristics so sound, that it is still a standard, general-purpose high-speed steel. REX AA has a wide hardening range. This steel is less susceptible to soft skin during hardening than other types and has good red hardness and toughness. Among its many applications are boring tools, broaches, cutters, drills, gear cutters, lathe tools and woodworking knives. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-426. Producer or source: Crucible Specialty Metals Division, Colt Industries.
