Type 347 (UNS S34700) and type 348 (UNS S34800) are austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steels containing columbium and tantalum. These grades are recommended where it is preferred to omit the annealing operation after welding. They are also recommended for service at temperatures between 425 and 900 deg C (800 and 1650 deg F). Type 348 is used in applications that require a restricted tantalum content such as those encountered in radioactive service. These types are essentially non-magnetic when annealed and become slightly magnetic when cold worked. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as creep. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming and heat treating. Filing Code: SS-898. Producer or source: J & L Specialty Steel Inc.

CarTech 347 is a niobium+tantalum stabilized austenitic stainless steel. Like Type 321 austenitic stainless steel, it has superior intergranular corrosion resistance as compared to typical 18-8 austenitic stainless steels. Since niobium and tantalum have stronger affinity for carbon than chromium, carbides of those elements tend to precipitate randomly within the grains instead of forming continuous patterns at the grain boundaries. CarTech 347 should be considered for applications requiring intermittent heating between 425 and 900 °C (800 and 1650 °F). This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-1339. Producer or source: Carpenter Technology Corporation.

CLC 18-10Nb is one of the basic grades of stainless steels. It is niobium bearing and, with its low carbon content, ensures better ductility and avoids intergranular corrosion even on welded pieces without water quenching. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, elasticity, tensile properties, and shear strength as well as fracture toughness and creep. It also includes information on forming, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-991. Producer or source: Industeel USA, LLC.

CRUCIBLE F347 is a non-hardenable austenitic chromium-nickel steel that is particularly adaptable for use at temperatures between 800 and 1650 F. It is non-magnetic in the annealed condition but is slightly magnetic in the cold-worked condition. Among its many applications are aircraft-engine exhaust manifolds, boiler shells and high-temperature handling equipment. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-436. Producer or source: Crucible Specialty Metals Division, Colt Industries.

EASTERN STAINLESS Type 347 contains an addition of columbium which produces a stabilized type of stainless steel free from the chromium carbide precipitates that cause intergranular corrosion. It is recommended for welded parts which cannot be annealed after welding. It is also used for parts which are intermittently heated and cooled to temperatures between 800 and 1600 F. Its many applications include exhaust manifolds, expansion and high-pressure steam pipes. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness, creep, and fatigue. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: SS-390. Producer or source: Eastern Stainless Steel Company.
