Allegheny Ludlum 316 and 316L are corrosion resistant, molybdenum bearing austenitic stainless steels. Type 316L is the low carbon grade of type 316 offering decreased carbide precipitation. The MINIMISER form is an improved machinability version with a change in the sulfur composition, still maintaining the dual certification capability of the base type 316/316L grades. Like standard 316 and 316L stainless steels, MINIMISER 316/316L is more resistant to acids and pitting/crevice corrosion than the molybdenum-free 18-8 type stainless steels. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, microstructure, and elasticity. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, and joining. Filing Code: SS-776. Producer or source: Allegheny Ludlum Corporation.

Atlas 316 is a chromium-nickel-molybdenum austenitic stainless steel, second only to Atlas 304 in commercial importance. The molybdenum gives Atlas 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than type 304 austenitic stainless steel, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. It is readily brake or roll formed, welded, soldered, and cut by both thermal and mechanical methods. The austenitic structure gives excellent toughness, even down to cryogenic temperatures. Atlas 316L, the low carbon version of Atlas 316, is highly resistant to sensitization (grain boundary carbide precipitation) and so is extensively used in heavy gauge welded components; about 5 mm, 0.2 in., and over. Atlas 316H, with its higher carbon content, has some application at elevated temperatures, as does stabilized type 316Ti. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-1365. Producer or source: Atlas Steels.

Carpenter Project 70+ Type 316/316L is a modified version of Type 316/316L stainless steel with improved machinability when compared to conventional 316/316L. The alloys are non-hardenable austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum steels and are good general-purpose products for simple and complex parts.See also Project 70/Project 7000 Type 316, Alloy Digest SS-339, revised October 1997, and Project 70/Project 7000 stainless type 316L, Alloy Digest SS-515, revised July 1997. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-878. Producer or source: Carpenter Specialty Alloys.
