AK Steel Type 304L is a chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel. It is an extra low-carbon variation of Type 304 with a 0.030% maximum carbon content that eliminates carbide precipitation due to welding. As a result, this alloy can be used in the “as-welded” condition, even in severe corrosive conditions. In many cases it eliminates the necessity of annealing weldments except for applications specifying stress relief. Type 304L has slightly lower mechanical properties than Type 304. Remanit 4306 is a low-carbon chromium nickel austenitic stainless steel that is superior in corrosion resistance to type 302 (see Alloy Digest SS-99, revised September 1998). Due to its low carbon content, Remanit 4306 is intergranular corrosion resistant under continuous operating conditions up to 350 C (652 F). EASTERN STAINLESS TYPE 304L is the basic 18-8 chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel with a very low carbon content (0.03% max.). Its general resistance to corrosion is similar to AISI Type 304 but, because of its low carbon content, it has superior resistance to the formation of harmful carbides that indirectly contribute to intergranular corrosion. It is recommended for most articles of welded construction. Postweld annealing is not necessary. CRUCIBLE 3041 is a non-hardenable, low-carbon austenitic chromium-nickel steel designed for special applications. It is particularly suitable for applications requiring welding operations where it is not practical to anneal alter welding. This grade is non-magnetic in the annealed condition but slightly magnetic when cold worked. Alloy 19D (UNS S32001), Nitronic 19D, is a lean duplex (ferritic-austenitic) stainless steel developed by AK Steel. Compared to conventional duplex and super-duplex stainless steels, alloy 19D has a reduced chromium content, man-ganese is substituted for most of the nickel, and molybdenum is essentially eliminated.
