Special Metals Inconel G-3 is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy with additions of molybdenum and copper. Some of the minor elements are controlled to yield increased resistance to heat affected-zone (HAZ) corrosion and improved weldability. Special Metals Inconel G-3 has excellent corrosion resistance to oxidizing chemicals and atmospheres. It is also resistant to reducing chemicals because of its nickel and copper contents. The nickel content also provides the alloy with exceptional stress-corrosion-cracking resistance in chloride-containing environments. This alloy improves upon the excellent high-temperature corrosion resistance of INCONEL alloy 690 (see Alloy Digest Ni-266, March 1981) through an addition of aluminum. Inconel Alloy 693 is typically 61% Ni, 29% Cr, 3.3% Al, and 0.7% Nb, with the balance being principally iron. By virtue of its contents of chromium and aluminum, alloy 693 offers particularly good resistance to oxidation, carburization, sulfidation, and special resistance to metal dusting.
