ALUMINUM 850.0 is an aluminum-tin-nickel-copper alloy for bearings. It is used principally in the form of permanent-mold castings which, because of their rapid solidification, are characterized by a fine, dense, fatigue-resistant structure. Solid bearings machined from permanent-mold castings of this alloy are used principally in the artificially aged T5 temper for heavy-duty engine bearings. In this field Aluminum 850.0 alloy has provided satisfactory performance under conditions of very high unit loading at medium speeds and temperatures. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and compressive and shear strength as well as fatigue. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as casting, forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: Al-252. Producer or source: Various aluminum companies.

ALUMINUM 852.0 contains higher concentrations of copper and nickel than either Aluminum 850.0 or Aluminum 851.0 alloy. The higher copper and nickel percentages and an addition of magnesium give Aluminum 852.0 higher strength and make it suitable for bearing applications requiring improved resistance to higher operating stresses (loads). Aluminum 852.0 is used for the production of castings by the sand and permanent-mold processes. It is normally supplied and used in the T5 temper. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and compressive and shear strength as well as fatigue. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as casting, forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: Al-248. ALUMINUM A850.0: Aluminum Alloy for Bearings
Available to Purchase
Alloy Digest (1982) 31 (9): Al-240.
Published: 01 September 1982
... Characteristics: Aluminum A850.0 can be cast readily in sand or per- manent molds. The silicon content (2.0-3.0%) of this alloy greatly improves the feeding characteristics over Aluminum 850.0; this improvement provides a sounder, more uniform structure in castings, especially in the large bearing castings used...

ALUMINUM A850.0 is an aluminum bearing alloy containing nominally 2.5% silicon for improved casting characteristics. It is used extensively in the T5 temper for heavy-duty applications, such as large rolling-mill bearings. It is particularly suitable for this application because of its anti-scuffing characteristics, low friction and high resistance to wear under conditions of boundary and thin-film lubrication. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and shear strength as well as fatigue. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as casting, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: Al-240. Producer or source: Various aluminum companies.
