AK Steel Type 316 has a 2.0-3.0% range of molybdenum that improves the corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steels and imparts hot-strength characteristics. Type 316 also has better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion than the regular chromium-nickel stainless steels. Another valuable property is high creep strength at elevated temperatures. The alloy has extensive use in marine exterior trim, chemical- and food-process equipment, pharmaceutical and textile-finishing equipment, and in the pulp and paper industry. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as creep. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, and joining. Filing Code: SS-865. Producer or source: AK Steel Corporation.

AK Steel Type 316L is a Cr-Ni-Mo steel with a very low carbon content (0.03 max). Its general resistance to corrosion is similar to AISI Type 316 (see Alloy Digest SS-865, October 2002) but, because of its low carbon content, it has superior resistance to the formation of harmful carbides that contribute to intergranular corrosion. Type 316L is used widely in many industries such as chemical, food, paper, textile, nuclear, and oil. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-872. AK Steel Type 304 is a chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel. It is a variation of the base 18-8 grade, but with higher chromium and lower carbon content. The lower carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation due to welding and reduces its susceptibility to intergranular corrosion. Type 304 is the most versatile and widely used stainless steel grade. It combines good resistance to atmospheric corrosion and to many chemicals, food, and beverages. It has excellent formability. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties as well as fatigue. It also includes information on low and high temperature performance, and corrosion resistance as well as forming and joining. Filing Code: SS-1317. Producer or source: AK Steel Corporation. AK Steel Type 304L is a chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel. It is an extra low-carbon variation of Type 304 with a 0.030% maximum carbon content that eliminates carbide precipitation due to welding. As a result, this alloy can be used in the “as-welded” condition, even in severe corrosive conditions. In many cases it eliminates the necessity of annealing weldments except for applications specifying stress relief. Type 304L has slightly lower mechanical properties than Type 304. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fatigue. It also includes information on high temperature performance, corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, and joining. Filing Code: SS-1324. Producer or Source: AK Steel Corporation.

AK Steel Type 301 is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel that provides high strength and good ductility when cold worked. It is a modification of Type 302, in which the chromium and nickel contents are lowered to increase the cold-work-hardening range. This permits higher tensile strengths to be achieved by rolling with a lower loss of ductility than with Type 302. The high-strength properties of Type 301 make it ideally suited to structural and transportation applications. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. Cleveland-Cliffs 444 is a low carbon, low nitrogen, dual stabilized ferritic stainless steel that provides pitting and crevice corrosion resistance superior to most ferritic stainless steels and some austenitic stainless steels. It is equivalent to Type 304 austenitic stainless steel in many corrosion environments and has a lower coefficient of expansion and better thermal conductivity. Cleveland- Cliffs 444 has superior chloride stress-corrosion cracking resistance to Type 304 and Type 316 austenitic stainless steels. It is oxidation and creep resistant at elevated temperatures, making it a preferred material for the most demanding applications in automotive exhaust.
