ZA-8 is a zinc-base foundry alloy capable of being sand, permanent mold gravity or die cast (hot-chamber machine). ZA-8 should be the first choice when considering die casting the ZA family (3 alloys) due to its cost effective hot-chamber castability. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and compressive and shear strength as well as fracture toughness, creep, and fatigue. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as casting, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: Zn-35. Producer or source: Noranda Sales Corporation. Originally published November 1980, revised October 1991. See also Zn-48, January 1990.

ZA-27 is the strongest, hardest and lightest of the three-member ZA alloy group (see also ZA-8, Alloy Digest Zn-48, January 1990, and ZA-12, Alloy Digest Zn-49, May 1990). Mechanical properties of ZA-27 compare favorably with many heavier more costly (manufacturing intensive) alloys such as malleable and ductile iron, manganese and aluminum bronzes and many ferrous and nonferrous wrought alloys. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and compressive and shear strength as well as fracture toughness and fatigue. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as casting, forming, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: Zn-50. Producer or source: Aluminum Smelting and Refining Company Inc.. See also Alloy Digest Zn-32, October 1977.

ZA-12 is the intermediate member of the family of three ZA die-casting alloys. Its melting point, solidification range and recommended casting-temperature range are greater than those of ZA-8. (See Alloy Digest Zn-48, January 1990). Due to these factors, ZA-12 must be die cast in cold chamber die-casting machines like conventional aluminum die-casting alloys. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and compressive and shear strength as well as fracture toughness and fatigue. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: Zn-49. Producer or source: Aluminum Smelting and Refining Company Inc.. ZA-8 is a hypereutectic zinc-aluminum,highperformance die casting alloy. It is one of a family of three ZA Alloys which can be economically die cast with properties surpassing conventional zinc or aluminum alloys. It is the lowest aluminum content alloy of the family and it has the lowest melting point and casting temperature range. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and compressive and shear strength as well as fracture toughness and fatigue. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: Zn-48. Producer or source: Aluminum Smelting and Refining Company Inc.. UNS No. Z35840 is a zinc-aluminum-copper alloy that offers exceptionally high strength (58,000 to 64,000 psi tensile strength as cast) at modest cost. It performs best in thin-walled castings (down to 0.10 inch) which means reduced weight and lower material costs when castings are redesigned. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and compressive and shear strength as well as fracture toughness, creep, and fatigue. It also includes information on corrosion and wear resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: Zn-44. Producer or source: Zinc alloy producers.

UNS No. Z35635 is a zinc-aluminum-copper-magnesium foundry alloy recommended for castings of moderate strength and low cost. It was designed for use in nonferrous permanent-mold foundries to compete with cast-iron, aluminum and bronze castings. The alloy can be sand cast and die cast. Its many uses include hardware, valves, implement components and equipment for liquid fuel transfer because it is non-sparking. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, tensile properties, and compressive and shear strength as well as fatigue. It also includes information on corrosion and wear resistance as well as casting, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: Zn-42. Producer or source: Zinc alloy producers.

KIDD Alloy ZA-27 is a zinc-aluminum-copper high-strength foundry alloy. It is well suited to structural applications, once the exclusive domain of malleable cast iron, bronzes and aluminum. ZA-27 offers an as-sand-cast tensile strength of 58,000 to 64,000 psi at modest cost; also, it can be cast in cold-chamber machines for better properties than those of conventional die-casting alloys. It is extremely resistant to galling because it has natural lubricity and is thus well suited to bearing and bushing applications. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness, creep, and fatigue. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as casting, forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: Zn-39. Producer or source: Kidd Creek Mines Ltd.

It performs best in thin-walled castings (down to 0.10 inch) which means reduced weight and lower material costs when castings are redesigned. It is similar to the general-purpose ZA-12 alloy (Alloy Digest Zn-31, September 1977) except for its higher strength and elongation, but with higher casting temperatures and poor heavy-section castability. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, tensile properties, and shear strength as well as fracture toughness and creep.
