AL TECH CHEROKEE is a high-carbon, high-chromium die steel containing nominally 3.25% cobalt. The cobalt provides effective resistance to galling and pickup as well as improved hot hardness. The cobalt enables this steel to perform exceptionally well on both extended cold-work and moderate hot-work applications. Another feature of this versatile die steel is its outstanding secondary hardness associated with remarkable tempering resistance up to 900 F. Typical applications comprise blanking dies, swaging dies, hot and cold-piercing punches, forming rolls, shear blades and coining dies. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-465. Producer or source: AL Tech Specialty Steel Corporation.

CASCADE is a precipitation-hardening steel which is very popular as a mold steel for injection molding of thermoplastics. It is also an excellent choice for many zinc die-casting dies because of its resistance to heat checking and wash. A further wide usage for Cascade is as a holding-block material for die-casting dies and molds for plastics when high strength is mandatory. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-15. Producer or source: Latrobe Steel Company. Originally published December 1953, revised January 1962, October 1986.

SUPER SAMPSON is an alloy die and mold steel that develops exceptionally high strength which is retained at operating temperatures to 800 F. In the annealed condition (maximum Brinell hardness 135), cavities can be machined readily or produced by hobbing if the impressions are not too deep. SUPER SAMPSON takes a high-luster finish if carburized to the proper surface carbon content, the maximum carbon content is 0.50% for the die-casting dies and 0.80-1.00% for plastic molds. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness, and deformation. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-92.
