NIROSTA 4002 is an apparatus structural steel with 13% Cr. It is used for crack-resistant installations in the mineral oil industry because it has a high level of resistance against hydrogen and hydrogen sulfide. This chromium steel requires a smoothened surface free from residues in order to achieve optimal resistance to corrosion. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on high temperature performance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-856. Producer or source: ThyssenKrupp Nirosta GmbH.

ALLEGHENY STAINLESS Type 405, unlike most other 12% chromium steels, is not subject to appreciable hardening through air cooling from high temperatures. This is an advantageous characteristic in those applications where a soft, ductile material is required after rapid cooling from above the critical temperature. The nonhardening tendency of Type 405 also retards the formation of hardening cracks where welding is employed. Its uses include annealing boxes and baffles where hardening during cooling would be undesirable. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as heat treating and machining. Filing Code: SS-461. Producer or source: Allegheny Ludlum Corporation.

CARPENTER STAINLESS TYPE 440F is a high-carbon chromium steel designed to provide stainless properties with maximum hardness. It is free-machining, easy to grind and polish, and has certain nongalling and noseizing properties in metal-to-metal contact. After austenitizing and quenching in oil, it shows a hardness of about Rockwell C 60. Carpenter Stainless Type 440F is used for machined parts which require higher hardness than possible with other free-machining grades of stainless steel. Type 440F usually is not recommended for vessels containing gases or liquids under high pressures. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-449. Producer or source: Carpenter.

CARPENTER STAINLESS TYPE 414 is a hardenable (martensitic), nickel-bearing chromium steel. It resists corrosion from the atmosphere, fresh water, mine water, crude oil, blood, alcohol, mercury and many other reagents; however, it is rarely considered for high-temperature service because scale formation starts when 1200 F (649 C) is exceeded. Type 414 is used for many heat-treated parts such as high-strength bolts and nuts. CARPENTER STAINLESS TYPE 443 is a heat-resisting chromium steel which stands up very well under destructive scaling conditions up to 1600 F (871 C). It is not subject to intergranular corrosion as a result of hot working, welding or continuous operation at elevated temperatures. Carpenter Stainless No. 2 Mold Steel is a 13% chromium steel ideally suited for long-run molding jobs. It is specifically used for protection against the following corrosive conditions: (1) Rusting of cavities when machines are shut down or molds are stored, (2) Rusting of mold cavities when using corrosive plastics, and (3) Corrosion problems when molds are used in hot, humid climates. In addition to resisting the above corrosive conditions, users have found that this steel has many other cost-reducing advantages for applications where corrosion is not involved. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: SS-367. Producer or source: Carpenter.
