CARPENTER NICKEL-COPPER ALLOY 405 is the free-machining grade of Carpenter Nickel-Copper Alloy 400, the result of a controlled amount of added sulfur. Like Alloy 400, Alloy 405 is a solid-solution alloy and therefore strengthed only by cold work. Its strength is comparable to that of structural steel and it has good toughness. It can be used from sub-zero to as high 800 F (1000 F in sulfur-free oxidizing environments). Its corrosion resistance (including virtual immunity to stress-corrosion cracking in chloride environments) is very good in reducing conditions but not in oxidizing atmosphere. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Ni-338. Producer or source: Carpenter.
