About Alloy Digest

Alloy Digest is the leading information source for commercial and standard alloys and their properties, performance characteristics, applications, and processing details. Alloy Digest datasheets provide facts and figures on composition and product forms, physical and mechanical properties, heat treatment, and machinability.

Features:

  • More than 6000 datasheets for the most widely used industrial alloys: steels, stainless steels, tool steels, cast irons, aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, nickel alloys, copper alloys, and many more types. Coverage includes current commercial alloys as well as superseded alloys
  • Consistent data structure to enable easy comparison of alloy compositions, physical and mechanical properties, and processing/application characteristics
  • Now in a highly discoverable platform with advanced search and filtering capabilities

History

Alloy Digest has been published continuously since September 1952, when it was launched by Engineering Alloys Digest Inc. (Montclair, NJ) as a loose-leaf datasheet publication. From the start, each monthly issue consisted of several one- or two-page datasheets, with each datasheet providing easy-to-compare data for an industrially important alloy. That content and publishing model has remained consistent over the decades.

Alloys are selected for coverage by the Editor, who adapts and standardizes the presentation of alloy data from producer literature and other sources. The Editor of Alloy Digest is Alok Nayar, a metallurgical consultant with more than 30 years of experience in alloy selection and standardization. He started in that role in January 2020, taking the helm from Dennis Rahoi, who had served as Editor since the 1990s.

In 1996, ASM International acquired the Alloy Digest publication and its archive. ASM immediately undertook the project to digitize the backfile. ASM has offered the digital archive in various formats since that time while also sustaining the monthly release of new and updated datasheets.

In July 2020, Alloy Digest was added to the ASM Digital Library. In the current platform, Alloy Digest is a fully searchable, up-to-date digital archive as well as an online periodical with regular monthly updates. Other ASM Digital Library resources include ASM Handbooks Online, ASM Technical Books, and the ASM Failure Analysis Database.

How to Contribute

Materials producers and distributors are invited to contact ASM if they have data for alloys that are candidates for coverage in Alloy Digest. ASM also invites producers and datasheet users to report potential corrections or datasheet updates to ASM. Please contact matinfo@asminternational.org. Other comments and questions about the publication can be sent to the same email address.
