Abstract

AIRKOOL is a high-hardenability (deep-hardening) tool and die steel that is intermediate in abrasion resistance between the oil-hardening and high-carbon high-chromium tool steels. It possesses superior toughness to both of these types; furthermore, AIRKOOL can be machined readily and has excellent non-deforming characteristics. It is well suited for applications requiring toughness and fairly high resistance to abrasion. Typical applications for AIRKOOL include blanking dies, forming dies, punches and shear blades. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: TS-435. Producer or source: Crucible Specialty Metals Division, Colt Industries.
