Abstract

ALCOA Alloy 2090 is an aluminum-lithium alloy with 8% lower density and 12% higher elastic modulus than 7075-T6, a major high-strength alloy used in aircarft structures. Special facilities and practices required for casting commercial size aluminum-lithium ingots have been developed to cope with the highly reactive nature of lithium in molten aluminum. In general, the alloy should be considered for use in light-weight structures requiring high strength and stiffness. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on low and high temperature performance, and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Al-299.
