Abstract

COLUMBIA S6 is a silicon-manganese shock-resisting tool steel with fairly high hardenability. It offers superior toughness and wear resistance when compared to conventional shock-resisting steels heat treated to Rockwell C 54 to 56. For optimum strength and toughness, parts should be tempered within the range 400 to 600 F. Among its many applications are shear blades, punches, hand chisels and pneumatic tools. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-445. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.
