Abstract

LA SALLE SERIES 83-420 is a low-carbon, bismuth-bearing, free-machining, cold-finished steel that does not contain lead, tellurium or selenium. Its excellent machinability is achieved by the addition of a special bismuth alloy. Series 83-420 reduces friction during machining and the chips break clean and small. This steel machines to a fine satin finish, can be carburized and performs well in cold-working operations such as roll threading, crimping, swaging and peening. It is recommended for automatic screw-machine operations. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: CS-107. Producer or source: LaSalle Steel Company.
