Abstract
Ostalloy 255 is a bismuth-base eutectic alloy that melts at the low temperature of 255 F (124 C). After freezing it is characterized by initial shrinkage followed by slow growth. It provides scientists and engineers with an easily castable material that is ready for use practically as soon as it freezes. It can be recovered easily and recycled into new uses any number of times. Among its many uses are (1) Anchoring metal parts in glass, (2) Filler for large diameter tubes for bending, (3) Proof casting forging dies, (4) Fusable elements is safely plugs and (5) Mechanical dentistry. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, and hardness. It also includes information on casting, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: Bi-25. Producer or source: Arconium Corporation of America, A.J Oster Company.
