SIMONDS D-2 is an air-hardening tool and die steel of the high-carbon, high-chromium type. It is characterized by high resistance to abrasion, fair toughness, minimum distortion in hardening and high compressive strength. Its many uses include a wide range of cutting and forming dies, rolls, reamers, plug gages and shear blades. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining.
