Panther 5 is a 5% cobalt, high-carbon, high-vanadium, tungsten high-speed steel. Because of its excellent red hardness, higher cutting speeds can be used with Panther 5 than with the regular high-speed steels. Heat treating Panther 5 to its maximum hardness will provide long tool life. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining.
