AISI 1086 is a high-carbon water of oil-hardening steel of low hardenability. It is used for music wire, tools springs, machinery parts and many other applications. It develops high surface hardness on quenching and tempering lightly and has good wear resistance. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: CS-57. Producer or source: Carbon steel mills.
