Abstract
AISI Type W2 is a water-hardening high-carbon tool steel recommended for general applications. Its vanadium content prevents austenite grain growth and improves its toughness and its resistance to fatigue and abrasion. It is shallow hardening and in sizes over 1/2-inch in diameter, it hardens selectively with a hard, abrasion-resistant surface supported by a softer and tougher core. These characteristics make it desirable for many types of impact tools. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and joining. Filing Code: TS-267. Producer or source: Tool steel mills.
