Carpenter SIL No. 1 is a hardenable silicon-chromium alloy steel that is used in applications where the operating temperatures are below 1000 F. It is widely used for intake valves and for exhaust valve stems in internal combustion engines. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness.
